Takaua is a first-hand helper, companion and pal in learning the Tongan language.

The app is designed to enable young people to learn the Tongan language and culture at their own pace, and in their own time, from anywhere in the world.

It includes information on the Tongan alphabet, national anthem, Lord’s prayer, numbers, pronunciation, seasons, colours, prayers and hymns. Additionally, a series of videos on cultural protocols have been included, discussing the structure of Tongan family, extended family or kainga, core values, respect, as well as the roles and responsibilities of family members.

It is not only for Tongans, but also for non-Tongan speakers.

Takaua will be the first app we turn to for enrichening our knowledge of Tongan language and culture.
