Mamutjitji Story is the first-ever app in the Ngalia language, and an interactive resource that takes a unique approach to connecting today’s youth with ancient ways.

Mamutjitji is a Ngalia language name for an invertebrate also known as the antlion, the larval form of the lacewing fly.
Using bi-lingual narration, animation, games, workbooks and song, students learn about the Mamutjitji, its lifecycle, its feeding habits and its environment.

There are also useful Teacher Notes to support teachers in sharing this resource. The Notes can be downloaded from the app or from this link Two Way Science Activities.

This app was produced as a joint initiative with Support from WA’s Ngalia Heritage Research Council, Walkatjurra Cultural Centre, CSIRO and Australia’s National Science Agency.

Sponsored by Leonora Shire, MLG, Dilji Corporation’s Dilji Digital Innovation Hub, and Kiwa Digital.

As a collaboration between two Indigenous organisations, the project is attracting global interest.

We hope our initiative inspires other remote communities, especially our young people, to aim high and embrace innovation and technology. Technology here has been used as a tool to preserve our cultural knowledge and language as well as to foster greater understanding about caring for the environment in a cultural way.

The Mamutjitji Story not only preserves and celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Ngalia people but also fosters a deep appreciation for science and learning among the next generation. Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this vision to life! MLG is proud to have sponsored the development of the app and to be part of this exciting journey.

I love the fact that technology allows someone like me to find out information after reading an article online. It was easy to see the connections between Dilji Corporation, GABC and Mineral Resources. As far as I can see they are all private entities and are working together for the betterment of their members. Technology can be a force for positivity and for getting stories and the truth out to the world. Good news story in this article.
